Radio interferometry combines the signals of different radio telescopes to achieve a better resolution than any single telescope is capable of. The further apart the telescopes (the longer the baseline between them), the higher the resolution! The addition of the Irish station to the international LOFAR array will increase the maximum resolution achievable.

This tool helps visualize the longest baselines to a given LOFAR station. Please input a single station ID (CS002HBA0, for example). You can also optionally enter a frequency in MHz to get results in kilolambda. Note that the core stations (CS) and remote stations (RS) are located in the Netherlands, while the other stations are located across Europe (Germany, France, Poland, Sweden, the UK - and soon Ireland.)
